Vacation Logic brings structure to chaos in an interconnected world that demands big change.
Taking the serendipity out of creativity
Manasi first encountered Vacation Logic at a serendipitous conversation—when she met Janne at a business school alumni event. While discussing their work, Manasi realized that Vacation Logic could address a challenge she was facing with a large client: designing an optimal ecosystem for improving plastic recycling rates in Europe. Existing methodologies only mapped ecosystems; they couldn’t help design them from scratch. Intrigued by Vacation Logic’s promise to fill this gap, she began collaborating with Janne and Erik, setting the stage for her deep involvement with the framework.
For Manasi, Vacation Logic addressed a long-standing unease she had felt with traditional brainstorming methods. While brainstorming encouraged creativity, it lacked structure, relying too much on serendipity and chance. “How could we be sure we’d explored every possibility? How could we confidently say we hadn’t missed a better idea?”
Vacation Logic brought the rigor she craved—breaking down problems into fundamental essences and methodically rethinking each one. This structured, essence-by-essence approach not only ensured thoroughness but also inspired creativity beyond the limits of typical brainstorming sessions.
Manasi’s involvement in the Vacation Logic book stemmed from her desire to make the framework accessible. “As powerful as it is, Vacation Logic is counterintuitive because we aren’t taught to think this way. I wanted to help bridge that gap.” Drawing on her experience training large organizations in design thinking and lean startup methodologies, she worked to simplify the framework, ensuring its logic and principles could be grasped and applied by anyone.
“It’s the first framework I’ve encountered that makes first principles thinking actionable - not only to redesign products or services but entire systems.
Vacation Logic doesn’t just ask you to think differently—it gives you the tools to do so, grounded in the rigor of mathematics.”
Once you start using it, you can’t unsee it. You start recognising the patterns everywhere, and first-principles thinking becomes second nature.”
